Spitsbergen kitchen slat made in Longyearbyen

The Spitsbergen kitchen slats are handmade in the workshop of master carpenter Wolfgang Zach in Longyearbyen. Their design is inspired by arctic wildlife: polar bear, bearded seal, walrus whale, Spitsbergen reindeer. And then there is my personal favourite: the version that has the map of Svalbard. They are made of hard oak wood and are therefore suitable for daily use. Depending on how exactly you use them, they will have traces in the long run, as is in the nature of things even with hardwood.

Longyearbyen's master carpenter Wolfgang Zach may be known to loyal visitors of this shop and associated website as the manufacturer of the beautiful Spitsbergen driftwood picture frames. But Wolfgang's local hit in Longyearbyen are the kitchen slats (kitchen boards), which he produces locally in his workshop in Longyearbyen. They are very popular amongst both locals and tourists for example in Svalbardmuseum! Here they are offered for the first time in very limited quantities outside Longyearbyen. Due to the challenging logistics only 5 copies were initially available per type! So - while stocks last. First come, first serve.

The design of the kitchen slats is inspired by the arctic wildlife: Bearded seal, polar bear, walrus, Spitsbergen reindeer and whale. My personal favourite, which is available at my request, is the one that has the Spitsbergen map (I am a geographer and map person), but I love the other ones as well.

The kitchen slats were handmade in Longyearbyen by master carpenter Wolfgang Zach. They are made of hard oak and are therefore suitable for daily use. Depending on how exactly you use them, they will have traces in the long run, as is in the nature of things even with hardwood. Due to the natural material with its beautiful, in detail differently structured grain, each board is ultimately a unique piece.

The boards are 16 mm thick. The other dimensions refer to the maximum expansion in each case and may vary slightly with each individual slat.

echtes Spitzbergen-Feeling
